Village Pub
The Barrow House is a pub in idyllic Egerton, a village known for its thriving community spirit as much as its magnificent views across the Weald of Kent, picturesque cottages and local history.
Previously known as The George, the inn was originally built in 1576 using timbers from sailing ships and traditional cob and straw plaster, which still remain behind the 17th century timber frame, weatherboards and Kent peg tiles.
The pub has important history from the last century too as the local of choice for Canadian and American squadrons based at nearby airfields during the Second World War. The signatures of these pilots can be found in the bar, alongside cask ales from Kentish breweries, great beer and wide selection of wines by the glass.
We’re open seven days a week, for everything from coffee in the morning, a few pints after work or drinks after dinner to tasty bar snacks, perfect pub lunches and delicious roasts on Sunday.
Kitchen
We’re passionate about flavour and quality and believe that great seasonal ingredients deserve respect. Our handcrafted burgers are made in house, our bread is baked daily and everything from our kitchen is prepared from scratch and freshly cooked.
Whether you fancy a quick snack, a light lunch or dinner with friends and family, there’s something for everyone on our menu, from traditional pub classics, soups and sandwiches to more adventurous smoking flavours, chargrilled treats and tempting puds.
We accept online bookings for parties of less than ten. If you’d like to book for a larger group, please drop us an email to check availability.
Menus
We aim to source all our ingredients from a 20-mile radius using a range of local suppliers who bring us the freshest seasonal produce on a daily basis. Our chicken, beef, lamb and pork are all free range and often rare breed and our fish is sourced from sustainable waters. Please click here for allergy information about each of our current dishes.
Rooms
For those who want to spend more time in the village or explore the local area, there are three beautiful bedrooms upstairs all with luxurious en suite bathrooms and enormous beds to ensure the most comfortable overnight stay or relaxing weekend getaway.
We’ve used contemporary fabrics and restored furniture to give each room a distinct personality, but they share in common a feeling of space and light with large windows looking onto the village and valley.
Depending on the day and the season, prices range from £80–£140 per night which includes a hearty breakfast in the morning. Guests are welcome to check in from 3pm onwards and must check out before 11am.
If we are not showing any availability, you could try our gorgeous sister pub The Milk House in Sissinghurst, which is just a short drive away.
